Purpose: Umbrella review is an effective method for survey the synthesis of high-level evidences that systematically evaluates and integrates findings from systematic reviews and meta-analysis in different fields. In this study, the Purpose is to analyze the methodological structure of umbrella reviews.
Methodology: The umbrella review methodology was carried out in nine steps: definition of the research question(s), refinement and development of the protocol and determination of entry and exit criteria, determination of a comprehensive search strategy in international authoritative databases including Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, ERIC, PsycINFO and Google Scholar search engine and authoritative Persian information databases: Zaban ganj, SID, Mogiran, Normagz using standard keywords, screening and selection of studies, systematic extraction data, evaluating the quality of evidence and overlapping studies, combining and interpreting the data, and presenting the findings report.
Findings: In umbrella review studies, by accurately identifying relevant studies, it is possible to achieve more objective effectiveness of studies; to consolidate evidence; assess quality and credibility; resolve contradictions and identify gaps in systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
Conclusion: the umbrella review results "essential link" between studies and systematic researches and meta-analysis with new evidence-based decisions. Obviously, that combining the highest level of evidences can facilitate comprehensive guidelines and substantive decisions for policymakers and decision-makers.
