Subject: One of the key areas of research in knowledge and Information science and universities and specifically in the field of scientometrics and science studies is the evaluation and measurement of various science and knowledge units in universities.This research examines studies related to the promotion of faculty members in universities in Iran and around the world.
Purpose: This paper discusses and examines the texts related to the promotion of faculty members in universities in Iran and around the world. The emphasis of this text is primarily on articles related to this field.
Methodology: The research method was documentary-analytical. Although an attempt has been made to conduct systematic and methodical search, due to the large volume of writings and the limited research opportunities, there are no claims of comprehensiveness or sufficiency regarding the reviewed texts. The aim has only been to represent and categorize the overall issue within various thematic categories in the general framework of this field
Findings: In this regard, the backgrounds related to promotion have been categorized and reviewed into nine major axes. The major axes include:
1. Studies related to identifying the obstacles and challenges in the promotion regulations and providing solutions
2.Studies related to one or more aspects of the four dimensions of promotion
3. Studies addressing the issues of marginalized groups, including the humanities, women, Black individuals, and so on
4. Comparative studies examining the status of promotion across different countries
5. Studies focusing on the promotion process of faculty members in a specific discipline
6. Studies regarding the experiences and perspectives of faculty members themselves on the promotion process.
7. Studies concerning the evolution of the conceptual and discursive understanding of promotion over different time periods
8. Studies related to the automation and smartening of the promotion process
9. Studies focusing on localization and theorization about promotion, as well as future studies
Ultimately, the results indicate difference in status between Iran and the world, particularly in developed countries and fourth generation and future universities. Therefore, it is suggested that key topics and fundamental issues, such as attention to international knowledge and experiences, especially the automation and smartening of activities and processes related to promotion, should be given more attention in future research.Other issues that require more and deeper research include localization, theorizing, and future-looking issues.
