Objective:
The primary aim of this study is to explore the status of scientific collaboration between researchers from Iran and the United States in the field of psychology during the period of 2022–2023. This research, grounded in scientometric analysis, seeks to investigate the extent and quality of co-authorship between the two countries, identify the leading universities and most frequently cited researchers, and determine the involvement of third-party countries in these collaborations. By visualizing and analyzing data from the Scopus database, the study aims to offer a comprehensive picture of how Iranian and American scholars interact scientifically in psychology. The importance of this inquiry stems from the fact that international collaborations not only enhance the quantity and quality of scientific output but also lead to knowledge transfer, expanded academic networks, and elevated international scientific standing for the countries involved.
Methodology:
This applied study adopts a descriptive research design using a scientometric approach. The statistical population includes 320 psychology-related articles indexed in Scopus, co-authored by researchers affiliated with institutions in both Iran and the United States during the years 2022 and 2023. Data collection involved advanced search techniques in the Scopus database, applying filters for country affiliation, publication year, document type (articles), and subject area (psychology). The data were analyzed to identify collaborating universities, citation patterns, most active researchers, and involvement of other countries. The VOSviewer software was employed for the visualization of co-authorship, citation networks, and international collaboration maps. These scientific maps facilitated the identification of underlying structures and patterns in scholarly collaboration.
Conclusion:
The findings reveal that Tehran University of Medical Sciences, University of Tehran, and Iran University of Medical Sciences had the highest levels of collaboration with American institutions. In terms of citation impact, researchers such as Chudal, Ahmadi, and Han were the most cited, indicating their scientific influence and international connectivity. The thematic focus of the articles was primarily in the fields of medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Furthermore, England, Canada, and Australia emerged as prominent third-party collaborators in the network. The data also highlighted the pivotal role of Iranian researchers as central connectors within co-authorship networks, acting as bridges between different research communities. These collaborations have significantly contributed to the formation of multinational scientific networks, improvement in research quality, and enhancement of Iran’s international scientific presence in psychology. The study recommends that scientific policymakers in Iran focus on strengthening international collaboration infrastructures, creating joint research grant schemes, simplifying administrative processes, and organizing training workshops for young researchers. Special attention should be paid to fostering partnerships with leading universities and institutions in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia to maximize the potential for high-impact international scientific cooperation.
