Purpose: The study aims to investigate the role of social networks in facilitating academic exchanges among faculty members at Ilam University.
Method: The present study is applied in nature and was conducted using a survey method. The statistical population for this study consists of faculty members at Ilam University. The sample size was determined using the Cochran formula, resulting in a total of 127 participants. The Mirzaei Questionnaire (2016) was utilized to collect data. To determine the sample size within the categories, a stratified random sampling method was employed. To evaluate the validity of the questionnaire, experts in the relevant field frequently conducted assessments. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which was found to be 0.925, indicating high reliability. SPSS software was utilized for data analysis. To test the hypotheses, both the one-sample t-test and the Friedman test were employed.
Findings: The findings indicated that all faculty members utilize social networks. Notably, 48% of professors spend more than three hours a day on these platforms. Among the social networks referenced in the ResearchGate questionnaire, it was the most frequently used. The laptop is the most important tool for accessing social networks. The majority of respondents use both Persian and English. Based on the results obtained, the use of social networks can effectively enhance the knowledge of professors. According to the results, the most significant advantage of using social networks, as expressed by professors, was the ability to foster motivation for conducting research activities. Conversely, professors identified privacy concerns as the primary obstacle to utilizing social networks. The average score for the knowledge improvement component among faculty members is 4.09, which is significantly higher than the overall average of 3. Therefore, with 95% confidence, we can conclude that the effectiveness of using social networks to promote knowledge among faculty members is above average. The items associated with the knowledge promotion component have been ranked using the Friedman test. A comparison of the average ranks indicates that the significance and ranking of the mentioned components differ from one another with 95% confidence (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The use of social networks is common among professors and the use of these networks can be effective in improving their knowledge. Considering the importance and role of social networks in establishing scientific exchanges between researchers, it is necessary to introduce these networks correctly. To help improve and effective productivity of these networks. The component of the influence of social networks in scientific exchanges showed that the use of social networks in scientific exchanges among faculty members of Ilam University is higher than average.
