Mapping the Scientific Landscape of Good Sports Governance: A Scopus-Based Bibliometric Study (2015–2025)
Abstract
Background: Good sports governance, as a key concept in sports management and policy, has attracted increasing attention from researchers and international organizations in recent years. Despite the significant growth of studies in this field, a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge structure, research trends, and patterns of scientific collaboration in good sports governance remains limited.
Objective: This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis and map the scientific landscape of research on good sports governance between 2015 and 2025, based on data extracted from the Scopus database.
Methods: Employing a descriptive–analytical approach, this study utilizes bibliometric techniques, including publication trend analysis, geographical distribution of research, co-authorship networks, co-citation analysis, and keyword co-occurrence mapping. Data were analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer software.
Results: The bibliometric analysis revealed a steady and upward trend in scientific publications on good sports governance from 2015 to 2025. Developed countries, particularly the United Kingdom, played a central role in knowledge production and scientific impact. Keyword co-occurrence analysis indicated that concepts such as sports governance, sports management, and sports policy are central to research in this field, while complementary dimensions—including transparency, accountability, sustainability, and health—emerged as key elements of good sports governance.
Conclusion: Findings suggest that the field of good sports governance is increasingly oriented toward enhancing the quality, effectiveness, and coherence of governance systems. These insights provide a framework for guiding future research, improving policy-making, strengthening management practices in sports organizations, and fostering the development of international scientific networks and collaborations.
